A meeting of the co-chairs of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran was held as part of a visit to Iran by a delegation led by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev.
The Cabinet of Ministers told the “Operative Information Center-OMM”.
The meeting addressed the current state of economic and trade, transport and communications, and humanitarian ties, as well as other issues of mutual interest and prospects for expanding cooperation.
The participants also discussed the implementation of agreements reached at the 17th meeting of the State Commission, held in Baku in February this year, and measures envisaged in the Memorandum of Understanding signed at the meeting.
The deputy prime minister said that the active political dialogue and friendly relations between Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Masoud Pezeshkian have given significant impetus to the development of relations between the two countries.
He specifically noted the meeting between the leaders held in Bishkek.
Reviewing the work carried out over the past period, Shahin Mustafayev stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of agreed projects and continuing coordinated action among the relevant institutions.
The development of the International North-South Transport Corridor and increasing its throughput capacity were among the main topics discussed in the transport and transit sector.
The completion of construction of the Aghband–Kalaleh road bridge was welcomed, while issues related to commissioning border-crossing infrastructure were also discussed.
The measures taken to complete work at the Astara cargo terminal and expand its cargo-handling capacity were also reviewed.
The sides exchanged views on promising infrastructure projects between the two countries.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue efforts to develop mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran, ensure the consistent implementation of agreements reached at the 17th meeting of the State Commission, and accelerate the implementation of joint projects.
The North-South International Transport Corridor is a multimodal route designed to connect Northern Europe with South Asia through Azerbaijan and Iran. Its development is intended to strengthen regional connectivity and facilitate the movement of goods.
