Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are bound by centuries-old ties of friendship and brotherhood, and relations between the two countries are based on a strategic partnership.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President Ilham Aliyev said this at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State.
“I am pleased to note the intensive nature of high-level contacts between our countries. I visited Turkmenistan in August 2025. Last year, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, visited Azerbaijan twice, and in June this year, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedow paid a state visit to our country. These contacts have given fresh impetus to bilateral relations and opened up new opportunities to expand cooperation in many areas,” Ilham Aliyev said.
