Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have agreed to take their relations to a new level on the sidelines of a Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit in the city of Avaza, in western Turkmenistan.
The countries have established a Supreme Council of Strategic Partnership to provide an institutional framework for strengthening political ties and expanding cooperation. Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed the relevant document at a meeting on the sidelines of the summit on Thursday.
Leaders of CIS member states are expected to attend a meeting of the Council of Heads of State on Friday.
