The successful hosting of the 3rd CIS Games in Azerbaijan became a landmark sporting event for the entire Commonwealth of Independent States.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said this at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State.
The president recalled that the competitions were held in seven Azerbaijani cities simultaneously.
“Thousands of athletes and guests from CIS member states and other countries around the world got to know our country and people better during the 11 days they spent in Azerbaijan. Such large-scale initiatives extend far beyond sport. They serve as a strong bridge of friendship between peoples,” Ilham Aliyev said.
The CIS Games bring together athletes from member states and provide a platform for sporting competition and international exchange. Azerbaijan’s hosting of events across seven cities highlighted the country’s capacity to organize a large-scale international sporting program.
