A delegation led by Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Security Service, Colonel-General Ali Naghiyev, attended a meeting of the heads of special services of Central Asian states and Azerbaijan in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The meeting focused on ensuring regional security amid modern threats.
The State Security Service’s Press Service told "Operative Information Center-OMM" about this.
Speaking at the event, Colonel-General Ali Naghiyev emphasized that the participation of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia clearly reflects the strategic nature of relations between the countries. He said Azerbaijan’s becoming a full-fledged participant in this format was a historic step that would contribute to strengthening peace, stability and security in the region, adding that Azerbaijan’s relations with the Central Asian states had entered a qualitatively new stage.
The head of the State Security Service noted that threats to regional security include international terrorism and religious extremism, the activities of transnational criminal groups, and the illicit trafficking of drugs and weapons, as well as modern forms of cybercrime and other threats targeting critical infrastructure. He said it was particularly concerning that criminal and terrorist groups could use modern information technologies to disrupt the operation of transport, communications and other vital facilities.
Colonel-General Ali Naghiyev expressed confidence that the atmosphere of brotherhood, mutual respect and trust characterizing relations between the countries would continue to grow stronger.
At the end of the meeting, the participants agreed to continue close cooperation among special services to further strengthen regional security and stability.
