The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has initiated the selection process for consultants to provide management services for the modernization of electrification, signaling, and telecommunication systems along the Bilejeri–Yalama railway section.

According to the "Operative Information Center-OMM", citing the ADB, the estimated value of the consulting services contract is 2.088 million US dollars.

The bank reports that the project implementation period is 54 months, with work initially scheduled to commence on February 1, 2027. The ADB is currently considering the allocation of a 350 million US dollar loan for the project, which was appraised between February 16 and 27, 2026.

The project is planned to be co-financed by the ADB, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and the government of Azerbaijan. This initiative is part of a broader cooperation framework, under which the ADB plans to allocate up to 2.5 billion US dollars in financial resources to Azerbaijan as part of its new partnership strategy.

The Bilejeri–Yalama railway line is a critical component of Azerbaijan's transport infrastructure, serving as a vital link in the North-South Transport Corridor. Modernizing this route is expected to significantly enhance transit capacity, improve safety standards, and increase the efficiency of freight and passenger transportation between Azerbaijan and neighboring countries.
