A 14-year-old student has been arrested after a school principal and a teacher were shot at Lakanal middle school in Aubagne, southern France, on Monday morning, French media reported.
The two staff members were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to reports.
Broadcaster “BFMTV” and newspaper “Le Parisien” reported, citing sources familiar with the investigation, that the incident was not believed to be connected to ongoing protests over school conditions.
Education Minister Edouard Geffray said on social media that the principal and teacher had suffered gunshot wounds. He said a student was suspected of carrying out the shooting.
Geffray is due to visit the scene near Marseille on Monday afternoon with Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez.
