Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv is “very open” to Türkiye hosting a trilateral leaders’ meeting on peace negotiations, according to remarks he made after talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Speaking to reporters in New York on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Zelenskyy described relations between Türkiye and Ukraine as “very strong” and said his meeting with Erdogan had been productive.
Erdogan told him that Türkiye was ready to host a trilateral meeting at the leaders’ level, Zelenskyy said.
“I said that if the president could organize it, we will support the idea of holding it in Türkiye,” he said.
“We will be ready to come for such a summit,” Zelenskyy added.
Trade target
The two leaders also discussed economic ties, including the free trade agreement between Türkiye and Ukraine.
Zelenskyy said the countries aim to increase bilateral trade from $1 billion to $10 billion, adding that they had achieved “very good results” and were moving towards that goal.
Black Sea security and food supplies
Maritime security, a potential ceasefire or truce at sea and food security were also on the agenda, according to Zelenskyy.
“Türkiye is a very strong partner on the Black Sea with Ukraine,” he said.
