“The United States has warned Ukraine that it could stop sharing intelligence if Kyiv continues strikes on Russian oil refineries.”
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made the remarks.
Zelensky said Washington had made clear to Kyiv that intelligence cooperation could be reconsidered if Ukraine continued its attacks on Russian oil refineries.
The Ukrainian president said Kyiv was striking Russia’s energy and logistics infrastructure to weaken the country’s ability to wage war.
Zelensky said Ukraine was interested in ending military operations but would not stop such attacks while Russia continued striking Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
He also said Russian President Vladimir Putin was not responding to diplomatic efforts in the way Ukraine’s partners expected.
“Putin only understands strength,” Zelensky said.
Addressing an agreement between the United States and Russia on supplies of Russian diesel fuel, Zelensky said a temporary suspension of sanctions on Russian fuel would not affect prices in the United States.
He said the planned volume of 1.8 million tonnes would not be enough to do so.
The Ukrainian president said the decision would allow Moscow to secure more funding to continue the war. Zelensky also noted that rising diesel prices were linked to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking about the energy ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on October 11, Zelensky said he had learned of it, like others, from the U.S. president’s social media post.
However, Trump said on October 13 that Washington was continuing to provide assistance to Kyiv and share intelligence with it.
Ukraine’s strikes on Russian energy infrastructure have formed part of Kyiv’s efforts to disrupt the logistical and financial resources used to sustain Russia’s war. The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for global oil and fuel shipments, and disruptions there can affect energy markets.
