The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said on Friday that it had shot down three drones over southern Saudi Arabia and the Riyadh region amid continued Houthi attacks on the kingdom.
Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki said on “X” that forces had also intercepted and destroyed two cruise missiles over the Red Sea.
Maliki added that a ballistic missile targeting the Saudi port city of Yanbu had been shot down in recent hours.
The incidents followed a wave of Houthi attacks on Saudi airports and energy facilities.
Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government against the Houthis since 2015. The Houthis have controlled Sanaa and several other provinces since 2014.
The latest escalation began in July, after a period of relative calm following a UN-brokered truce that took effect in April 2022.
