Lithuania head coach Edgaras Jankauskas shared his thoughts after his team’s match against Azerbaijan in the group stage of the UEFA Nations League. The match, played in Baku, ended in a 1-0 victory for Azerbaijan.
Jankauskas said two evenly matched teams had competed on the pitch. Lithuania, he said, had been unable to convert its scoring chances, while Azerbaijan made better use of its opportunity. The coach congratulated Azerbaijan on the win.
After the result, the Lithuania coach said the race for first place in the group was no longer entirely in his team’s hands.
Jankauskas also expressed dissatisfaction with the officiating. He said he believed a number of decisions had favored Azerbaijan and alleged that an opposing player had committed a foul before the goal. In his view, the referee appeared more sympathetic toward Azerbaijan in some incidents during the match.
