Lithuania head coach Edgaras Jankauskas has assessed his team’s 0-1 defeat to Azerbaijan in the UEFA Nations League group stage.
Speaking at a news conference after the match in Baku, Jankauskas said two evenly matched teams had competed on the pitch. Lithuania failed to convert its chances, while Azerbaijan made better use of its opportunities, he said.
“I congratulate the Azerbaijan national team,” the coach said.
Jankauskas also voiced dissatisfaction with the refereeing. He said finishing top of the group was no longer in Lithuania’s hands. The coach alleged that an Azerbaijan player had committed a foul before the goal and said that in some incidents the referees appeared to favor the opposition. Commenting on the VAR decision, Jankauskas said he believed the overall refereeing had benefited Azerbaijan.
