The Western Azerbaijan Community has issued a strong statement condemning recent actions in Armenia and abroad aimed at obstructing the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the official statement highlights a concerning trend of provocative incidents occurring simultaneously with the recent constructive and positive meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Abu Dhabi.
The Community specifically denounced the French Senate's adoption of a resolution calling for the release of war criminals who committed atrocities against the Azerbaijani people. Furthermore, the statement criticized a Swiss parliamentarian's meeting in Armenia with individuals representing themselves as "leaders" of defunct illegal entities, as well as claims that the "Garabagh issue is not yet closed," describing these actions as blatant interference in the peace process.
The statement emphasized a double standard in French policy, noting that while France promotes the principles of "liberty, equality, and fraternity," its parliament has remained silent on the systematic deportations, tragedies, and genocide faced by Western Azerbaijanis. It also pointed to the deliberate destruction of Azerbaijani historical and cultural heritage within the territory of Armenia.
The Western Azerbaijan Community maintains that for lasting peace to be achieved, the Armenian state must fully dissolve all remaining "institutions" of the former illegal regime on its territory. Additionally, the Community called for a clear stance against activities by extra-regional forces that damage the peace process.
The Western Azerbaijan Community is an organization representing the rights of Azerbaijanis expelled from their ancestral lands in present-day Armenia. The organization consistently advocates for the right of return and the protection of the cultural heritage of Azerbaijanis in the region, emphasizing that a sustainable peace in the South Caucasus requires the recognition of these fundamental human rights and the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
