Baku will be mostly sunny and dry on the first day of the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. However, fog has been observed in the capital and on the Absheron Peninsula since the morning. The amount of dust in the air is also two to three times above the norm.
“Operative Information Center-OMM”, citing the National Hydrometeorology Service, reports that the weather in Baku and on the Absheron Peninsula will be mostly dry. Foggy conditions are expected to continue throughout the day.
A north-easterly wind will blow in the capital, shifting to a north-westerly direction toward the evening. The wind is expected to be mainly light to moderate.
Temperatures in Baku will range from 18 to 22 degrees Celsius at night and reach 27 to 32 degrees during the day.
Dust levels in the air rise two to three times above normal
Increased dust levels have been observed in the capital over the past two days. The amount of dust in the air is currently two to three times above the norm.
As a result, foggy and hazy conditions have formed in some areas. Fog is also expected to remain visible in the air during the day.
Nevertheless, Baku will have mostly sunny and dry weather on the first day of the Formula 1 race.
What will the weather be like in the regions?
The weather in Azerbaijan’s regions will also be mostly dry. An easterly wind will blow.
However, weather conditions are expected to change in the mountainous and foothill areas of the Guba and Gusar districts. Thunderstorms and rain are possible, with a risk of hail.
Temperatures will also be high in the regions. They are forecast to reach 22 to 24 degrees Celsius at night and 30 to 35 degrees during the day.
Temperatures will be relatively lower in the high mountain areas because of rainy weather, ranging from 12 to 18 degrees at night and 24 to 25 degrees during the day.
River levels may rise, with risks of flooding and flash floods
The National Hydrometeorology Service has also issued a warning over the changing weather conditions.
According to the warning, river levels are expected to rise, particularly in the Guba-Gusar region, due to rainy weather.
There is also a risk of mudflows and flooding in rivers flowing through the foothills of the Greater and Lesser Caucasus mountains.
Thus, Baku will experience mostly sunny and dry weather on the first day of the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Fog observed in the morning and dust in the air are expected to persist during the day. Temperatures in the capital will rise to 32 degrees Celsius.
