Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a congratulatory message to Armenia's second president, Robert Kocharyan, on the occasion of his 72nd birthday.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Kremlin stated that in his telegram, Putin specifically emphasized Kocharyan's personal role in fostering friendship and allied relations between Russia and Armenia.

In his letter, the Russian leader wished Robert Kocharyan good health and high spirits. Putin also expressed his well-wishes to the former president and his family, specifically noting the need for resilience in the face of their current challenges. "In Russia, your personal contribution to the development of friendly and allied relations between our countries is not forgotten," the message stated.

Robert Kocharyan, who served as the second president of Armenia, has been a significant figure in the region's political history. His tenure was marked by complex geopolitical shifts in the South Caucasus. Recently, Armenian law enforcement agencies conducted searches on August 25 at the residences of Robert Kocharyan and his son, Levon, as well as at companies owned by the family.

Following these operations, Robert Kocharyan and his eldest son, Sedrak, were detained. The former president faces charges related to the illegal acquisition of property. According to the investigation, during his time as head of state, Kocharyan allegedly abused his official powers, conspired with other individuals, and acquired several socially and economically significant assets at prices below market value.
