Vahab Fatullayev, a member of Azerbaijan’s national épée fencing team, has won a bronze medal at the “Kadet-Junior Párbajtőr Magyar Kupa 3” tournament in Budapest.
A total of 149 athletes competed in the junior men’s individual event. The Azerbaijani representative won all six of his bouts in the group stage.
Fatullayev defeated competitors from China and Hungary in the knockout stage to reach the semifinals. He beat Akos Kubinger 15-10 in the quarterfinals.
The Azerbaijani épée fencer lost 13-15 to Edmond Wentzel in the semifinals and finished the tournament in third place. Athletes from Azerbaijan, Hungary, Austria, China, Ireland, Romania, Serbia and Slovakia took part in the competition.
