The US State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs issued an official advisory on its account on the social media platform X, urging US citizens in the Middle East to exercise a high degree of caution and remain alert.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Turkish broadcaster TRT Haber, that the US foreign affairs department advised travelers to prepare for possible flight cancellations, unexpected airspace closures and prolonged disruptions to international transport amid worsening security conditions in the region.
The advisory referred to missile and drone attacks carried out by Iran-backed Houthi groups based in Yemen against the territory of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It said damage to civilian facilities and critical infrastructure had caused serious disruptions to maritime and air transport.
The State Department said such security risks and military tensions could spread rapidly beyond the Middle East.
“US citizens traveling to countries in the Middle East or returning from the region should continuously monitor the operational status of international airports and airlines, and prepare emergency and evacuation plans in advance,” the official statement said.
