The United States is preparing to implement the most stringent sanctions in history against Iran, according to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. The administration aims to leverage economic pressure as a primary tool to curb Tehran's influence, potentially reducing the necessity for large-scale military operations in the region.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Secretary Bessent emphasized that the focus will be on comprehensive economic measures. He stated that he will provide specific details regarding Washington's upcoming actions against Tehran during a press conference scheduled for August 24.

"This is a two-pronged approach. We have a blockade in place, and we will implement the harshest sanctions in history," Bessent stated. He issued a stern warning that the US Department of the Treasury and the federal government will utilize all available resources against any nation that continues to cooperate with Iran, facilitates financial transfers to Tehran, or purchases Iranian oil.

Bessent further called upon US allies to join Washington's efforts to dismantle the Iranian economy. "We will bring down this regime. It is time for our allies and the entire world to make a decision. You are either with us or against us," he added.

The US-Iran relationship has been characterized by decades of tension, primarily driven by disputes over Iran's nuclear program, regional influence, and support for proxy groups. Economic sanctions have long been a cornerstone of US foreign policy toward the Islamic Republic, aimed at limiting the regime's financial capacity to project power abroad.
