According to Operative Information Center-OMM, which cites NBC News, representatives from the US and British Armed Forces confirmed the incident. The event occurred on May 31, and specific details have not yet been disclosed. US military representatives stated that the identity of the deceased US citizen will not be released until 24 hours after the family has been notified.
The UK Ministry of Defense confirmed that the family of the deceased British soldier has requested a grace period before further information is released.
The Al-Harir airbase in Erbil remains a strategic location used by both US and British forces. While the US withdrew troops from many Iraqi facilities in early 2026, it maintained a presence at this base. The facility has previously been a target for drone strikes amid regional tensions, including an incident on March 12 that resulted in injuries to several American personnel.
