Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reaffirmed Türkiye’s support for Libya’s unity, stability and security at an international meeting in New York on Thursday, according to Turkish diplomatic sources.
The meeting, titled “International Support for Peace, Unity and Prosperity in Libya,” was held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. Officials from Germany, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Qatar, Egypt and Saudi Arabia also attended.
Support for a Libyan-led political process
Participants discussed the UN-led political process in Libya, economic prosperity and security, the sources said.
Addressing the meeting, Fidan stressed that stability and security in Libya were important for the wider region. He said Türkiye would continue to make an active contribution to efforts aimed at strengthening the country’s stability.
Referring to his August 11–12 visit to Libya and meetings in Tripoli and Benghazi, Fidan reiterated Türkiye’s support for establishing a unified government under its “One Libya” policy.
Türkiye offers support on development and security
Fidan called on international partners to engage in dialogue with all Libyan parties and actors without discrimination. He also urged support for a political process led and owned by Libyans.
Türkiye continues to provide capacity-building assistance aimed at unifying and strengthening Libya’s economic and security institutions, Fidan said.
He added that Türkiye was ready to play a key role in areas where Libya needs support, including development and security, in the coming period.
