The treacherous attempt on July 15, 2016, was aimed at plunging Turkey into chaos, stated the Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Birol Akgün, during a commemorative event in Baku marking Turkey's July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the ambassador emphasized that the coup attempt, orchestrated by the FETÖ terrorist organization, was heroically thwarted by the Turkish people.
"We are deeply grateful to President Ilham Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan, who condemned the coup attempt from the very first moment and stood by Turkey. During this process, the 'One nation, two states' principle was once again clearly demonstrated," Ambassador Akgün said.
The ambassador further noted that Turkey, through the unity of its state and nation, will continue its resolute fight against the FETÖ terrorist group. He concluded his speech by honoring the memory of those who lost their lives on the night of July 15, stating that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
The July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day is a significant annual observance in Turkey, commemorating the failed military coup attempt in 2016. Azerbaijan was among the first countries to express official support for the Turkish government and its democratic institutions during the crisis, reinforcing the deep strategic and fraternal ties between the two nations.
