July 15 marks Democracy and National Unity Day in Turkey.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the military coup attempt orchestrated by a terrorist group years ago was decisively thwarted by the Turkish people under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

In doing so, the Turkish people defended their national statehood, legitimate government, and territorial integrity against reactionary forces and separatism.

Democracy and National Unity Day is an official public holiday in Turkey.

The coup attempt involved approximately 9,000 military personnel, utilizing 35 aircraft, 37 helicopters, 246 armored vehicles—including 74 tanks—and nearly 4,000 light weapons. On that day, 150 people were killed in Ankara, 99 in Istanbul, and 2 in Mugla, including civilians, police officers, and soldiers.

The failure of the coup attempt, orchestrated by Fethullah Gulen and his followers, fully exposed the terrorist organization that had infiltrated state institutions for many years.

During the 2016 coup attempt, Azerbaijan stood firmly with Turkey. From the first moments of the event, President Ilham Aliyev expressed his deep concern and openly declared his support for the Turkish state and the legitimate government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The brotherly Turkish people have always highly valued Azerbaijan's just and resolute position.
