U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a new task force, called the Super Intelligence Task Force, to secure the country’s global leadership in technology and coordinate the government’s public relations.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the move follows an executive order signed by the U.S. president on September 29. The order calls for replacing the term “artificial intelligence” in official government language with “Super Intelligence” (SZ/SI), on the grounds that the word “artificial” carries negative connotations.
Under the order, all federal departments and agencies are required to adopt the terminology in official correspondence and reports.
According to the report, the new body will report directly to the U.S. president and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. It will be led by National Intelligence Director Clayton. Its members include Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, adviser for defense research Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor. The task force will coordinate the federal government’s relations with technology companies, critical infrastructure providers and public organizations.
The initiative has drawn a broad response in the technology sector. OpenAI chief Sam Altman said in a recent interview that, despite the risks posed by the technology, it is important to make its benefits accessible to the public. Elon Musk, founder of Tesla and SpaceX, voiced support for the initiative and announced that the name of the SpaceXAI platform would be changed to SpaceXSI.
