Representatives of 25 countries took part in the WTT Youth Contender Tbilisi 2026 table tennis tournament in Georgia. Head coach of Azerbaijan’s national team, Mikhail Timofeyev, assessed the team’s performance at the international ranking event, which concluded last week.
Timofeyev said the coaching staff had expected a better result in the semifinals, but was satisfied with the team’s overall performance. He said the athletes’ mistakes would be analyzed as the team prepares for upcoming competitions.
Timofeyev also commented on the performance of Onur Guluzade, whom he coaches individually. The 15-year-old competed against athletes in the under-19 category. The head coach said Guluzade was taking part in a tournament in this age category for the first time. The team had aimed to win, but the result fell short of expectations.
According to Timofeyev, Azerbaijan’s senior national team will attend a training camp in China at the end of the month. The youth team will compete in an international tournament in Latvia.
Azerbaijani athletes are also scheduled to compete at the Open Championships in Finland in December.
