Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM) Numan Kurtulmuş congratulated Azerbaijan on the 108th anniversary of Baku’s liberation from occupation.
"Operative Information Center-OMM" reports that the TBMM speaker shared the message on his account on X.
“I wholeheartedly congratulate the brotherly Azerbaijan on the 108th anniversary of the liberation of its capital, Baku, from enemy occupation.
I remember with gratitude and appreciation the heroes of this sacred victory, foremost among them Nuri Pasha, commander of the Caucasus Islamic Army, as well as our dear martyrs and all the heroes who supported Azerbaijan’s struggle for independence,” he said in his post.
Today marks the 108th anniversary of the Caucasus Islamic Army’s liberation of Baku from the occupation of Armenian-Bolshevik forces. On September 15, 1918, Azerbaijani and Turkish troops liberated Baku from Bolshevik-Dashnak occupation, marking a historic day for the Azerbaijani state. The liberation ended Armenian and Bolshevik control over Baku and surrounding districts and helped secure Azerbaijan’s independence.
The Caucasus Islamic Army was formed in 1918 with the participation of Azerbaijani and Ottoman Turkish forces. Its campaign culminated in the liberation of Baku, then the center of Azerbaijan’s struggle for statehood, on September 15 of that year.
