Sweden has evacuated its diplomats from Iran, and the diplomatic mission is temporarily continuing its activities in Baku. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard announced the relocation on her X account.

"Given the deteriorating security situation in Iran, the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs has decided to temporarily relocate the Swedish staff of the embassy in Tehran. The embassy is continuing its work in Baku," the minister stated. She further noted that the security situation in Tehran remains extremely uncertain. The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs has advised against all travel to Iran since 2022 and continues to urge Swedish citizens to leave the country.

The decision to move operations to Azerbaijan highlights Baku's growing role as a stable regional hub for international diplomatic missions. This relocation follows a pattern of increasing regional tensions that have impacted diplomatic presence in the Middle East. Azerbaijan, maintaining strong international ties and a secure environment in the capital, frequently serves as a strategic location for diplomatic coordination and regional security dialogues.
