Sudanese government forces have repelled an attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the allied Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) in southeastern Blue Nile state, authorities said on Sunday, according to the report.
Bau Governor Abdul Ghani Daqis Khalifa said the army and allied forces confronted attacks on the Maqja and Mada areas. The attackers were forced to withdraw after suffering losses in personnel and equipment, although no figures were provided.
Khalifa said the security situation across Bau locality was “stable and under control”, adding that daily life was continuing normally in the town and its administrative units.
Fighting intensifies in Blue Nile
The announcement followed a series of military operations reported by the Sudanese army in Blue Nile state in recent days.
On Saturday, the army said it had ambushed RSF and SPLM-N forces in the Maqra area, causing casualties and destroying several military vehicles and items of equipment.
A day earlier, the army said it had launched a pre-emptive attack south of Al-Kayli, destroying nine RSF combat vehicles and their equipment.
Sudan’s wider conflict
Blue Nile, Darfur and Sudan’s three Kordofan states — North, West and South Kordofan — have seen fighting between the army and the RSF since Oct. 25.
Sudan has been engulfed in war between the army and the RSF since April 2023. The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced or forced to flee the country around 13 million, according to United Nations and international estimates.
