Multiple world champion and American swimmer Shane Casas described his overall performance in Baku as successful. He said he was satisfied with some of his results, while others did not meet his expectations.
Casas won gold in the 200-meter freestyle on the final day of the competition. He stressed the importance of being patient with the process of reaching the highest level. Rather than criticize his progress, he said, he should aim to improve through small steps each day.
The American swimmer is aiming to compete at the highest level over the next 18 to 24 months. Casas said taking part in consecutive competitions allows him to assess his results promptly and make necessary adjustments. He noted that no training session can fully replace the experience of competing.
Casas said he would also compete in the next stages of the Silk Road series. He said the team had received a warm welcome in Azerbaijan, taken part in excursions, visited landmarks and gone go-karting. The swimmer added that positive memories away from competition also mattered to him, while he continued to strive to remain fully focused each day.
