The Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government said Friday night that it had launched a large-scale military operation against Houthi forces, claiming it had destroyed 136 military targets in areas under Houthi control.
Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki said on “X” that the operation was targeting Houthi fighters and military capabilities. He said coalition forces were also working to dismantle the Houthis’ ballistic missile network.
The coalition said it was providing round-the-clock air support to Yemeni government forces as they advanced in an offensive known as “Dawn of Yemen.”
Earlier on Friday, Yemeni military spokesman Brig. Gen. Majed Abdullah al-Nadhib said government forces had carried out more than 2,750 strikes on Houthi positions over the previous 24 hours.
Al-Nadhib said the operations had neutralized more than 1,400 Houthi fighters and destroyed or damaged more than 250 military vehicles and pieces of equipment.
The offensive aims to recapture territory held by the Houthis, including the capital, Sanaa. Yemen has been engulfed in conflict since the Houthis seized the city in 2014; a Saudi-led coalition intervened the following year in support of the internationally recognized government.
