The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced that the Armed Forces of Ukraine violated the ceasefire regime declared for the Easter holiday a total of 1,971 times.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, between 16:00 on April 11 and 08:00 on April 12, Ukrainian units reportedly fired upon Russian border areas and military positions 258 times. The Ministry stated that multiple launch rocket systems, artillery, tanks, and mortars were utilized during these engagements.

The official statement from the Ministry provided the following statistical breakdown of the incidents:

  • 1,329 strikes were carried out using "FPV" drones;
  • 375 instances of shelling were recorded involving various munitions, including those dropped from unmanned aerial vehicles;
  • Three direct attacks were launched against Russian troop positions during the night, all of which were reportedly repelled.

Furthermore, it was noted that two unmanned aerial vehicles attacked the Kursk and Belgorod regions, resulting in injuries to several civilians, including a child. The ceasefire had been declared by the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to observe the Easter holiday, spanning from 16:00 on April 11 until the end of April 12.

Ceasefires during major religious holidays have been a recurring, though often fragile, feature of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Such truces are typically intended to allow civilians to attend religious services and to provide a temporary reprieve from hostilities. However, both sides frequently exchange accusations of violations, highlighting the ongoing volatility and the difficulties in maintaining even short-term humanitarian pauses in the region.
