Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev reportedly met with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in New York on Thursday, according to CNN.
The reported meeting came less than a month after Witkoff and Kushner held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The discussions in New York focused on continuing dialogue between Moscow and Washington, as well as efforts to seek peace in the ongoing war in Ukraine, CNN reported, citing sources with direct knowledge.
Visit not officially confirmed
Russia’s state-run RIA news agency also reported on Friday that Dmitriev was in New York. The agency said he had been seen outside a hotel in Manhattan after arriving in a motorcade accompanied by special forces and police vehicles.
Neither the Russian nor the US government has officially confirmed Dmitriev’s visit or the reported meeting.
US-Russia contacts continue
The reported talks followed a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
Witkoff and Kushner visited Moscow earlier this month and held talks with Putin that lasted more than three hours. The Kremlin described the discussions as “substantive, constructive, exceptionally frank”.
