The United States has strongly condemned Russia's recent strikes on Kyiv, urging Moscow to refrain from carrying out threatened systematic attacks against the Ukrainian capital. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Reuters, this statement was delivered during a UN Security Council meeting convened at Ukraine's request following a massive assault on Kyiv and its surrounding areas.

Robert Wood, the alternate representative of the US to the UN, characterized Russia's use of the "Oreshnik" ballistic missile as a "dangerous and barbaric escalation." He warned that further strikes on Kyiv could lead to increased civilian casualties and complicate prospects for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.

In response, Russia's Ambassador to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, rejected Washington's assertions. The United Nations has expressed deep concern regarding Moscow's statements concerning potential new strikes on the Ukrainian capital. According to Ukrainian authorities, the recent attack resulted in at least two fatalities and approximately 100 injuries.

The UN Security Council, the primary body responsible for maintaining international peace and security, frequently meets to address the humanitarian and geopolitical implications of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. These sessions serve as a platform for member states to debate the legality and consequences of military actions, though resolutions are often deadlocked due to the veto power held by permanent members, including Russia.
