Armenia’s Ministry of Justice has launched administrative proceedings against Judge Gevork Manukyan in a case involving the brother and nephew of Karekin II, the Catholicos of All Armenians.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Armenian media, reports that the proceedings were initiated by Justice Minister Srbui Galyan.
The hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 12.
The report said a relevant motion was submitted to the Supreme Council of the Judiciary in December last year. It is not yet known what procedural violation is attributed to Manukyan or which case it concerns.
The Supreme Council of the Judiciary will also consider a motion against Nora Karapetyan, a judge at the Civil Court of Appeal. Administrative proceedings against her were likewise initiated by the justice minister.
Gevork Nersisyan, the brother of Karekin II, and his nephew Ambartsum Nersisyan were released from house arrest on May 7 this year. Gevork Nersisyan and his son, Ambartsum Nersisyan, had been arrested on Nov. 3, 2025.
Karekin II has served as the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church since 1999. The Supreme Council of the Judiciary is responsible for disciplinary proceedings involving judges and for safeguarding judicial independence within Armenia’s justice system.
