Azerbaijan Judo Federation (AJF) President Rashad Nabiyev praised President Ilham Aliyev’s attendance at the opening ceremony of the world judo championships in Baku.
In a social media post, Nabiyev said the head of state’s presence at the ceremony reflected the attention and support given to Azerbaijani sport, as well as the special importance attached to judo in Azerbaijan.
The AJF president said he was pleased to welcome the world judo community back to Baku and wished success to the athletes competing in the tournament.
The world championships in Baku will conclude on Oct. 11. On the first day of competition, Azerbaijan team member Ahmad Yusifov won gold in the 60-kilogram category. It was Azerbaijan’s fourth gold medal at the senior world championships and the country’s first world title in the 60-kilogram division.
