President Ilham Aliyev received Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation and Co-chair of the Intergovernmental Commission, Alexei Overchuk, on Monday.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, during the meeting, the Russian side expressed sincere gratitude to the leadership of Azerbaijan for the prompt assistance provided in the evacuation of Russian citizens from the Islamic Republic of Iran amid the complex and tense conditions in the region.

The sides held an extensive exchange of views on the agenda of Azerbaijan-Russia relations. It was noted that, in accordance with the agreements reached between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Russia during their meeting in Dushanbe on October 9, 2025, the parties will soon take comprehensive practical steps to resolve the issues arising from the AZAL aircraft crash on December 25, 2024.

The discussion also focused on the shared intention to further develop mutually beneficial economic, trade, investment, industrial, and transport-logistics cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia. Furthermore, the prospects for the development of regional transport links were discussed, and the commitment to continue work on the development of the North-South International Transport Corridor was reaffirmed. A number of humanitarian issues were also addressed during the conversation.

The meeting was held in a traditionally friendly and constructive atmosphere characteristic of the interstate dialogue between Azerbaijan and Russia. Such high-level diplomatic engagements underscore the strategic partnership between Baku and Moscow, which has expanded significantly in recent years through joint infrastructure projects and regional security cooperation. The North-South International Transport Corridor, a key topic of the meeting, remains a cornerstone of this partnership, aimed at connecting India to Europe through the territories of Azerbaijan and Russia.
