President Ilham Aliyev has shared a post on his official social media accounts on the occasion of March 31 – the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis.
The commemorative post honors the victims of the bloody events of 1918, emphasizing the importance of preserving national memory and historical truth. The head of state’s message serves as a tribute to the thousands of innocent civilians who lost their lives during the massacres committed by Armenian-Bolshevik forces across various regions of Azerbaijan.
The Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis, officially established by a decree signed by National Leader Heydar Aliyev in 1998, marks the tragic events that took place in March-April 1918. During this period, tens of thousands of Azerbaijanis were killed in Baku, Shamakhi, Guba, Karabakh, Zangezur, Nakhchivan, and other regions. These events are recognized in Azerbaijan as a systematic act of ethnic cleansing and genocide aimed at the Azerbaijani population.
