One of the key priorities of domestic policy is ensuring food security.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made the remarks at an event titled “Restoring trust in a fragmented world: The South Caucasus as a pillar of global connectivity and investment stability,” held as part of the second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum in Baku under his patronage.
The head of state said that strengthening Azerbaijan’s integration with the European market and increasing mutual economic interdependence between the parties are among the country’s strategic priorities:
“This process has a positive impact both on the development of regional connectivity and on the country’s domestic economic resilience. Ensuring food security to meet local needs is one of the key priorities of domestic policy. Factors such as the severe consequences of global climate change and the decline in water resources make it necessary to introduce new approaches in the agricultural sector. In response to existing challenges, the State Program on Food Security has been adopted in Azerbaijan. Despite certain restrictions and natural difficulties in the sector, the measures being taken are aimed at increasing the potential of agriculture. According to expert assessments, the reforms implemented and the conditions created are turning the sector into an attractive business environment for both domestic and foreign investors.”
Food security has become an increasingly important policy issue worldwide as climate change, water scarcity and disruptions in global supply chains affect agricultural production. State programs in this area generally seek to support domestic production, improve resource efficiency and strengthen the resilience of food supplies.
