Azerbaijan has significant potential in the renewable energy sector.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made the remarks at an event titled “Restoring trust in a fragmented world: The South Caucasus as a pillar of global connectivity and investment stability,” held as part of the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum under his patronage in Baku.
“We have a potential of 160 gigawatts in the Caspian Sea alone. In addition, there is potential for solar and wind power plants. Therefore, our goal is to reduce the use of natural gas as much as possible and use these resources for exports,” the head of state said.
Ilham Aliyev said that the country’s second important area concerns transport, infrastructure and connectivity. “We are working on this area. Physical infrastructure creates a more comprehensible business environment for investors. At the same time, we are also working with neighboring countries in this direction,” he said.
Azerbaijan has been developing renewable energy projects as part of efforts to diversify its energy mix, improve energy security and expand its role in regional energy connectivity. The Caspian Sea’s wind resources are considered particularly important for producing electricity and potentially exporting green energy to international markets.
