Azerbaijan's support for the restoration and reconstruction efforts in brotherly Türkiye is a clear expression of our friendly and allied relations, President Ilham Aliyev said in a letter to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the remarks were included in a letter addressed to the Turkish leader on the third anniversary of the devastating earthquake that struck the country. President Ilham Aliyev highlighted that as a manifestation of fraternal duty, Azerbaijan has actively contributed to the reconstruction work in the Kahramanmaraş province, including the construction of the "Azerbaijan" residential complex. The head of state expressed confidence that the strong Azerbaijan-Türkiye unity and strategic alliance, based on the "One nation, two states" philosophy, will continue to contribute to the prosperity of both nations while ensuring regional stability, security, and sustainable development.
The earthquake, which occurred in February 2023, was one of the deadliest natural disasters in the region's modern history, affecting eleven provinces in Türkiye. Azerbaijan was the first country to provide assistance, deploying rescue teams, medical personnel, and humanitarian aid immediately after the disaster. The ongoing construction of the "Azerbaijan" neighborhood in Kahramanmaraş serves as a long-term symbol of the strategic partnership and solidarity between Baku and Ankara, further cementing the bilateral ties established under the Shusha Declaration.
