A prayer room and a car were set on fire in the town of Mukhmas, northeast of occupied Jerusalem, early Wednesday, and racist slogans were scrawled at the scene, a local official said, according to Anadolu Agency.
Mohammed Kanaan, a member of Mukhmas’ municipal council, said a group of Israeli occupiers attacked the area at around 2 a.m. local time (2300 GMT on Tuesday) and started the fires.
Residents notified the relevant authorities and asked firefighting crews to intervene, Kanaan said.
The incident comes amid continued attacks on Palestinians and their property across the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and during the olive harvest season, when attacks on Palestinian farmers have intensified.
On Monday, the Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission said it had documented 136 attacks by the Israeli army and Israeli occupiers linked to the olive harvest since the start of October.
The commission said the incidents included beatings, expulsions, intimidation, gunfire, tear gas, arrests, theft of olives and harvesting equipment, and damage to trees. It said the attacks had harmed farmers and restricted their access to their land.
Israeli army raids and attacks by Israeli occupiers against Palestinians and their property have intensified across the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since Israel began its war on Gaza in October 2023.
