Officers from the Sabunchu District Police Department have conducted successful operations targeting the illegal drug trade in the capital. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, law enforcement officials detained four individuals suspected of acting as drug couriers within Baku.

During the operation, police seized significant quantities of narcotics and psychotropic substances. Specifically, 15 kilograms were confiscated from 36-year-old Saddam Mammadov, 11 kilograms from 39-year-old Elchin Hajiyev and his 26-year-old associate Aykhan Abbasguliyev, and approximately 20 kilograms from 25-year-old Hafiz Taghiyev. The substances identified included marijuana, heroin, and methamphetamine. In total, over 46 kilograms of illicit drugs were removed from circulation.

In their initial statements, the detainees admitted to planning the distribution of these narcotics to various locations throughout the capital. Criminal cases have been initiated regarding these incidents, and the court has ordered pre-trial detention for all four suspects.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan frequently conducts such operations as part of a broader, nationwide strategy to combat drug trafficking. These efforts are critical to maintaining public safety and curbing the influence of organized crime networks that attempt to utilize the capital as a transit or distribution hub for illicit substances.
