The Azerbaijan group of the Peace Bridge Initiative has expressed deep disappointment over the biased attitude displayed by Armenian media and the unacceptable tone of public discussions concerning the diplomatic corps’ visit to the Garabagh and Eastern Zangazur regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan on September 11-12, 2026.
The information was provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the Azerbaijan group of the Peace Bridge Initiative.
It said, first and foremost, that a visit by the diplomatic corps to the sovereign territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan cannot in itself be a subject of dispute. In particular, hostile statements directed at ambassadors and states for participating in the visit are a cause for concern and contradict Armenia’s obligation to recognize Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Azerbaijan and Armenia are currently in the post-conflict stage, and both countries face the important responsibility of addressing the consequences of decades of confrontation. As part of peace initiatives, we, representatives of civil society, are taking steps with the support of the governments of Azerbaijan and Armenia to support the peace process, promote dialogue and contribute to confidence-building measures.
Cultural heritage located in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan belongs to the Azerbaijani people and is protected by the state.
To ensure justice, cultural heritage should be discussed on the basis of reciprocity and open dialogue. To achieve these goals, civil society representatives have established a platform to discuss professionally issues that form an integral part of the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Revanchist forces must not be allowed to put pressure on the peace process, as this could seriously jeopardize progress toward peace. We call on Armenian society to demonstrate restraint and refrain from enabling the malicious agenda of certain individuals in Armenia and beyond its borders.
