Pashinyan: Peace with Azerbaijan will transform Armenia-Russia ties

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that relations between Yerevan and Moscow are undergoing a transformation.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Sputnik Armenian published the remarks.

Pashinyan said that until peace is established between Azerbaijan and Armenia, about 90% of cooperation with Russia had focused on security issues.

According to him, the nature of Armenia-Russia bilateral relations will change in a period of peace, and cooperation with Russia will also be transformed.

“Until peace is established between Azerbaijan and Armenia, our interaction with Russia was focused approximately 90% on security issues,” Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan had earlier said that relations between Armenia and Russia would inevitably change, but that Yerevan did not intend to sever ties with Moscow.

The planned peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia could therefore affect the broader framework of regional cooperation, including security, economic and political contacts. The future scope of Armenia-Russia relations will depend on developments in the South Caucasus and the implementation of any peace arrangements.
