A Palestinian man was killed and 12 people were injured on Wednesday in attacks on olive harvesters in the Nablus and Tulkarem governorates of the occupied West Bank, according to local sources and the Palestinian Red Crescent, Anadolu Agency reported.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said 44-year-old Ali Hassan Yasser al-Bazari was killed in an assault by Israeli forces and settlers in Burqa, north of Nablus. Local sources told Anadolu that al-Bazari was a member of the Palestinian National Security Forces.
The Red Crescent said its teams treated eight people injured in Burqa. Three had gunshot wounds, one of them in very serious condition, while five others, including a woman, were hurt in beatings.
The organization said Israeli forces assaulted its crews near the Burqa Plain as they tried to reach and evacuate the wounded. The forces detained medical staff and confiscated ambulance keys and communication devices, it added.
Local sources said settlers attacked farmers harvesting olives in Burqa and opened fire. Settlers also attacked harvesters in Bazariya, north of Nablus, with injuries reported.
In Ramin, in the Tulkarem governorate, the Red Crescent treated four people injured in an attack on olive harvesters. The injured included an 81-year-old man, a 72-year-old woman and two 47-year-old men, all of whom were taken to hospital.
The incidents took place during the West Bank’s olive harvest season, which Palestinian sources say is regularly marked by settler attacks and restrictions on farmers’ access to their land. About 750,000 Israeli settlers live in 156 settlements and 360 settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem; the settlements are described as illegal under international law.
Israeli raids and arrests in the occupied West Bank have escalated since October 2023, alongside increased settler attacks, movement restrictions and closures of entrances to Palestinian towns and villages.
