At least one person was killed and six injured in overnight Russian attacks across Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday.

Zelenskyy said a Russian drone struck Kyiv’s Pivnichnyi Bridge, as key bridges in the capital came under attack for a fourth consecutive day. He also reported strikes on a medical supplies warehouse in Sumy and a communications facility in Dnipro.

Attacks reported across several regions

Russia launched 135 attack drones at Ukraine, more than 50 of them jet-powered, Zelenskyy said. He said they targeted residential buildings and critical infrastructure in Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Sumy regions, as well as Zaporizhzhia.

“There are power outages in some communities. Our services are working at the impact sites,” he said.

Zelenskyy said Russia had used more than 1,900 attack drones, 1,700 aerial bombs and 25 missiles against Ukraine during the week. More than 800 of the drones were jet-powered, he added, saying Russia must be held accountable for the escalation.

Zelenskyy welcomes German chancellor

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kyiv on Sunday morning. Zelenskyy welcomed his visit and said Germany had consistently supported efforts to protect Ukrainian lives from Russian attacks.

“We are grateful for all the support, and today we are preparing decisions to give us in Ukraine, and all of Europe, greater capabilities to defend ourselves. There will be important agreements between Ukraine and Germany. Russia must be stopped together,” he said.

Russia reports strikes and drone interceptions

Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces continued to strike Ukrainian port infrastructure and vessels it alleged were supporting Ukrainian troops. It said a drone hit a dry-cargo vessel carrying military supplies for Ukraine’s armed forces at sea east of Odesa.

The ministry also said airstrikes targeted a Ukrainian drone command post and temporary troop deployment sites in Donetsk and Sumy regions. It added that Russian air defences intercepted or destroyed 559 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over several Russian regions, Crimea and the Black and Azov seas.
