One person was killed and eight others were injured in an attack late Wednesday on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, the country’s civil aviation authority said, according to Anadolu Agency.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said the injured were taken to hospital for treatment. Their conditions ranged from minor to severe.
The attack also caused material damage that authorities were still assessing, GACA said, adding that further updates would follow. The authority did not specify the nature of the attack.
Earlier on Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry said two people were killed and two others injured by falling debris after air defences intercepted a drone targeting an “Aramco” facility at the Shaybah oil field in the Eastern Province.
The debris caused a fire in a contractor’s vehicle, but operations at the oil field were unaffected, according to the ministry.
The Saudi-led coalition also said on Wednesday that it had intercepted and destroyed five drones launched toward the kingdom, including in the Eastern Province and the Medina region.
King Fahd International Airport was previously attacked on Oct. 11, prompting damage assessments and safety inspections.
The incidents came amid escalating hostilities between Yemen’s Houthi group and the Saudi-led coalition, including attacks targeting Saudi airports and energy facilities.
