The foreign cargo ship Royad Mammadov came under a drone attack in the Black Sea near the coast of Romania.

“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided the information.

According to information received, Azerbaijani citizen Rustam Ismayil oglu Hasanov, the ship’s captain, born in 1974, was killed in the attack. Another Azerbaijani citizen, Mahammad Hamza oglu Suleymanzada, born in 2002, is missing. Search operations are currently under way.

The other Azerbaijani citizens among the crew were rescued, and three of them were taken to hospital.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating with Azerbaijan’s diplomatic missions and the relevant authorities of the countries concerned. Measures are being taken to provide the citizens with necessary medical and consular assistance and to arrange the repatriation of the remains of those killed.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of our compatriots who were killed and wish those injured a speedy recovery.

“We once again urge Azerbaijani citizens to refrain from travelling to areas where military operations are under way and the security situation is unstable, and from working in such areas or aboard vehicles, particularly ships, travelling along high-risk routes,” the statement said.
