Azerbaijan futsal player Nihad Ismayilov has spoken about the opening-round match against Czechia in the main qualifying round for the World Cup. He said morale in the team was high and that new head coach Elvin Guliyev had confidence in the players.
Although Ismayilov considers Czechia the favorite on paper, he said Azerbaijan could beat the opponent. According to him, the Czech squad has three or four experienced players, while the rest are young futsal players. The opposition mainly relies on aerial balls and has physically imposing players. Azerbaijan’s team has prepared specifically for these aspects.
The Neftchi player said the team’s management believes in the squad and expects a win in every match. Ismayilov stressed that he was confident the national team would achieve its main goal and qualify for the World Cup.
The Czechia–Azerbaijan match will be played today at the Hala Polarka Sports Arena in Frýdek-Místek, kicking off at 22:00 Baku time. Azerbaijan’s other group opponent is Latvia.
