Sumgayit player Nihad Ahmadzade has assessed his team’s 2-1 win over Araz-Nakhchivan in the eighth round of the Misli Premier League. The home side conceded the opening goal but came from behind to win in the second half.
“The opposition scored first. The situation became difficult, but we did not lose heart and staged a comeback in the second half to claim a hard-fought win,” the 20-year-old midfielder said. He said head coach Filipe Candido spoke with the team in the dressing room at halftime, after which the players performed better.
Ahmadzade said he wanted to celebrate his 81st-minute winning goal with the fans: “I was very happy to score and wanted to celebrate it together with the fans. I am very happy if I have been able to help my team. I thank our head coach for giving me the opportunity.” He made the remarks to sportify.az.
The player recalled that Sumgayit had earlier beaten Gabala 4-1 and said the team had regrouped after two consecutive wins. “We will get better. We believe in that as a team,” he said.
Ahmadzade said he learned while with Azerbaijan’s under-21 national team that he had been sent to Sumgayit’s reserve squad. He returned to the first team after training for several days. “I learned while with the national team that I had been sent to the reserve squad. After I returned to my club, they told me this again. I do not want to share much information about the other issues,” he said, declining to disclose further details about his situation.
