The Netherlands will take part in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, Dutch broadcaster RTL reported on Wednesday, ending uncertainty over the country’s participation.
The decision follows the withdrawal of Dutch public broadcaster AVROTROS from the contest in August. The broadcaster said it no longer considered the competition sufficiently neutral amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and argued that measures announced by the European Broadcasting Union, which organizes Eurovision, did not adequately address its concerns.
Why the Netherlands withdrew
AVROTROS later transferred responsibility for the country’s participation back to the Dutch public broadcasting organization NPO, leaving the Netherlands’ future in the contest unclear.
The Netherlands did not participate in the 2026 contest, marking the first time in 24 years that it had been absent. The broadcaster cited Israel’s participation and the consequences of the war in Gaza.
Spain, Ireland, Iceland and Slovenia also withdrew from the 2026 event, while Dutch public broadcaster NOS continued to air the contest.
When Eurovision 2027 will be held
The 2027 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place in Burgas, Bulgaria. The semifinals are set for May 11 and 13, followed by the final on May 15.
Ireland has already confirmed that it will not participate in 2027, while Spain is reportedly considering a boycott.
